Alexander G. Downing

Alexander G. Downing (1854-1932) was a pioneer Iowan and a life member of the Drake University Board of Trustees. He and his wife, Mary established 2 annual scholarships for students, endowed a chair for the early Medical Dept. ($25,000), as well as $5,000 for a medical library. They also gave the University a collection of history books for the library, the campus flag pole, and set up a flag fund.
